Australia’s transition to cleaner road freight has taken a major step with confirmation that Melbourne’s west will soon host the nation’s first dedicated electric truck charging hub. Supported by a $12.3 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), the project will be led by Mondo Power, delivering infrastructure designed specifically for heavy battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
Located in Laverton North, the hub will feature 14 dual-plug chargers, purpose-built to support the increasing demand for zero-emission heavy transport. For Fleet Managers exploring the feasibility of electrification, this site is positioned to serve as a real-world case study.
“Through Mondo’s project, we’ll be able to highlight to the heavy transport sector how electrification can be integrated into their existing business models and drive down the high emissions from transporting goods on our roads.”
ARENA CEO Darren Miller
The hub will not only provide charging services but also incorporate membership agreements, giving operators access to high-speed charging, set pricing, and driver amenities. Importantly, the funding package also offsets the total cost of ownership for 20 heavy BEV trucks, helping early adopters overcome initial barriers.
For fleet operators, this announcement demonstrates how industry and government are working together to reduce the 22% of Australia’s emissions that come from transport. The hub will allow companies to test operational models, understand charging patterns, and prepare for wider electrification.

- How Councils Are Matching EV Transition Plans With Community Service Expectations
When most people wind down for the summer holidays, council fleets ramp up. Public spaces need maintaining, pool cars stay busy, and essential services continue — even as residents flock to beaches, parks and events. At the Fleet EV Expo, one panel offered a refreshing reality check on what an EV transition actually looks like when - CEFC and Volvo Group Cut the Cost Barrier for Electric Truck Fleets
Australia’s transition to lower-emissions freight received a significant boost in December, with the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) partnering with Volvo Group on a $70 million financing package aimed at accelerating the uptake of battery electric trucks across Australian fleets. The initiative directly targets one of the biggest challenges facing Fleet Managers and Finance Managers: the upfront cost and - Zero-Emission Delivery at Scale: IKEA and JET Charge Show How it’s Done
One of Australia’s largest electric delivery charging projects has shown that zero-emission logistics is no longer aspirational — it is operational, scalable and delivering measurable results for fleets. JET Charge has completed a major national rollout in partnership with IKEA Australia, installing 59 EV chargers across seven sites to support the retailer’s transition to zero-emission - South Australia Begins Rollout of 94 New Scania Electric Buses
South Australia has taken another major step towards a fully decarbonised public transport network, with the first of 94 new-generation Scania electric buses now delivered and preparing to enter service. The milestone marks a significant acceleration in the State Government’s transition to zero-emission transport across Adelaide Metro’s bus and rail operations. The new battery-electric buses - Fleet at the Centre of Net Zero: Councils Face the Hard Reality of Sustainability Targets
At the Fleet EV Expo for Local Government last month in Melbourne, one message rang loud and clear: councils cannot meet their Net Zero commitments without rapidly transforming their fleets. With electricity and buildings already well on the decarbonisation pathway, fleet has now emerged as the next major obstacle—and the panel session on Climate Change Targets and
